Zodiac Compatibility Calculator by Birth Date

Enter both people’s birth dates and this zodiac match calculator identifies each sun sign, then compares the pair across romance, trust, communication, passion and marriage or long-term compatibility themes. Birth time is optional — if you add it, the calculator uses a simplified estimate for moon-sign and rising-sign themed insights, not a full birth-chart calculation. Results come from astrological traditions and are meant for entertainment and self-reflection, not scientific prediction.

Birth time and birth place are both optional. When a birth time is given, the calculator adds simplified, entertainment-only moon-sign and rising-sign themes using the birth-hour mapping described on this page — it is not an astronomical birth-chart calculation. Birth place is kept as a profile detail only and does not change any score.

What Is Zodiac Compatibility?

Zodiac compatibility is a long-standing astrological tradition of comparing two signs to describe how personalities, emotional needs and relationship styles may interact. It draws on much older Babylonian and Greek astrology, in which the twelve signs were grouped into four elements, and it is best read as a cultural framework for reflection rather than a science.

At its core, zodiac compatibility compares the elemental relationship between signs. The twelve zodiac signs are divided into four elements: Fire (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius), Earth (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn), Air (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius), and Water (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces). Signs in the same element are traditionally described as understanding each other naturally, while complementary elements (Fire with Air, Earth with Water) are described as creating a dynamic, balanced pairing.

Our Zodiac Compatibility Calculator starts with the sun-sign comparison, then adds optional, simplified moon-sign and rising-sign themes when you provide a birth time. That gives you a five-part reading of romance, trust, communication, passion, and long-term (marriage) compatibility. It is an astrology-inspired lens on your relationship for fun and self-reflection — not a full birth chart, and not a prediction of relationship outcomes.

Zodiac compatibility remains a popular way to talk about relationships. Astrology has not been shown to predict relationship success, but the framework is a familiar, low-stakes way to reflect on personality differences, communication styles and emotional needs — which is how this calculator presents it.

Zodiac compatibility is usually discussed in terms of elemental energies. Fire signs are associated with passion and spontaneity, Earth signs with stability and practicality, Air signs with conversation and social ease, and Water signs with emotional depth and intuition. In astrology, a harmonious mix of these energies is traditionally described as supporting understanding and affection.

How the Zodiac Compatibility Calculator Works

  1. Enter your name and birth date

Your birth date is converted into your sun sign — the sign most zodiac compatibility readings are based on.

  2. Enter your partner's name and birth date

The calculator reads your partner's birth date the same way so both sun signs can be compared side by side.

  3. Add optional birth time (and birth place)

Birth time is optional. If you add it, the calculator uses a simplified estimate to add moon-sign and rising-sign themed insights. Birth place is optional too and is kept as a profile detail only — it is not used in this simplified estimate. Neither field is a full birth-chart calculation.

  4. Tap Calculate Compatibility

Your zodiac love compatibility score is generated instantly — no signup needed.

  5. Read your zodiac love match report

You get an overall score plus romance, trust, communication, passion and marriage/long-term themes, along with strengths, challenges, relationship advice, date ideas and gift suggestions.

Results are deterministic: the same two signs always produce the same score in our model, so you can compare pairs fairly. If you would like a name-based reading instead, try the love calculator, browse more relationship compatibility tools, or play the couple quiz with your partner.

Sun Sign Compatibility

Sun sign compatibility is the most widely known form of zodiac compatibility. In astrology, your Sun sign is treated as representing your core personality and conscious self, and it comes straight from your birth date — which is why a birth date is all this calculator needs.

When evaluating sun sign compatibility, astrologers look at the elemental relationship between two signs. Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are linked with passion and enthusiasm. Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) with practicality and shared values. Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) with conversation and ideas. Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) with emotional depth and intuition.

The pairings traditionally considered most compatible are often between signs of the same element, since they are said to share basic values and approaches to life. Complementary elements (Fire with Air, Earth with Water) are described as creating exciting, growth-oriented relationships. In the astrology-inspired scores used here, Leo & Libra (94%), Aries & Leo (96%) and Gemini & Libra (97%) are among the highest sun-sign pairings.

Moon Sign Compatibility

Moon sign compatibility reveals the emotional dimension of a relationship. While your Sun sign represents your outer personality, your Moon sign governs your inner emotional world, instinctive reactions, subconscious needs, and how you seek comfort and security. In traditional astrology it is determined by the position of the Moon at your exact date, time and place of birth.

In relationships, astrologers treat moon sign compatibility as relevant to long-term emotional comfort. When two Moon signs are described as compatible, the pair is said to understand emotional needs more easily, respond to stress in similar ways and offer the kind of support the other person values. Moon signs in the same element are traditionally described as creating the deepest emotional resonance.

For example, a Cancer Moon is traditionally paired with Scorpio or Pisces Moons for an intuitive, nurturing bond, while an Aries Moon is linked with Leo and Sagittarius Moons through shared enthusiasm and direct emotional expression. These themes can be a useful prompt for talking about empathy and emotional intimacy — but note that in this calculator they come from a simplified birth-hour estimate.

How our calculator handles moon signs: birth time is converted with a simplified birth-hour estimate, so moon-sign results are entertainment-oriented themes rather than a precise lunar position. A true moon sign requires the exact date, time, time zone and place of birth — see about this calculator for the full method.

Rising Sign Compatibility

Your Rising sign, also called the Ascendant, is traditionally defined as the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon at the moment of your birth. In astrology it is described as the impression you make in public, your approach to new situations and how you come across to others. In relationships it is linked with attraction and first impressions.

Rising sign compatibility is traditionally discussed as an influence on the initial spark between two people. Compatible Rising signs are described as meeting with an immediate sense of recognition and ease. For instance, a Leo Rising is said to be drawn to the charm and grace of a Libra Rising, while an Aries Rising is described as energised by the adventurous spirit of a Sagittarius Rising.

Our Zodiac Compatibility Calculator adds a simplified rising-sign estimate from the birth time you enter. Because a true ascendant depends on the exact birth time, time zone and birthplace, we deliberately label it an estimate and keep it as a light, entertainment-only layer on top of the sun-sign comparison.

In short: sun sign = calculated from your birth date. Moon and rising signs on this page = simplified birth-time estimates for entertainment and self-reflection, not astronomical calculations.

In astrology, marriage compatibility is about more than romantic chemistry: it also looks at shared values, communication styles, attitudes to money, family orientation and long-term goals. Earth sign pairings such as Taurus & Capricorn and Virgo & Capricorn rate highest in the astrology-inspired table above, and traditional readings describe both signs as prioritising stability, loyalty and a secure future. Water sign pairings such as Cancer & Scorpio are described in the same tradition as emotionally close and durable.

Love, Trust, Communication and Passion Compatibility

One number rarely tells the whole story. Love compatibility by zodiac sign is traditionally described across four dimensions, and the sections below look at each of them in turn so you can see where a pairing is naturally at ease and where it may need more understanding.

Soulmate Compatibility

Soulmate compatibility is the label astrology uses for its deepest kind of sign connection. In that tradition a soulmate is someone whose chart is described as aligning with yours in a way that feels magnetic — a sense of recognition, as though you have known each other for a long time. It is a romantic idea, and it is poetry rather than proof.

The pairs most often named as soulmate-style matches are Leo & Libra, Cancer & Scorpio, Taurus & Virgo, Pisces & Scorpio and Gemini & Libra, all of which score above 90% in this calculator because their elements are described as harmonising. Astrology also suggests that other combinations can feel that way when extra chart factors line up, and real couples know chemistry depends on far more than signs.

Soulmate compatibility is presented here as more than romance: the tradition links those connections with growth and mutual change. Read more in our Soulmate Stories if you enjoy real-life love stories, and treat the calculator as a conversation starter rather than an answer.

Trust Compatibility

Astrology-inspired trust scores: signs traditionally described as loyal, consistent and reliable.

Zodiac SignTrust ScoreTraits
Taurus97%Loyal, consistent, reliable
Capricorn97%Responsible, committed, honest
Cancer96%Protective, devoted, nurturing
Scorpio96%Intensely loyal, secretive but faithful
Virgo95%Dependable, meticulous, honest
Pisces92%Compassionate, selfless, trusting
Libra91%Fair, balanced, harmony-seeking
Leo90%Generous, proud, loyal
Sagittarius88%Honest but freedom-loving
Aquarius88%Honest, detached but trustworthy
Aries86%Direct, impulsive but honest
Gemini84%Adaptable but can be inconsistent

Trust is the foundation of any healthy relationship, and in astrology some signs are traditionally described as more inclined toward loyalty and reliability. Taurus, Capricorn, Cancer and Scorpio sit at the top of this table, and traditional readings describe those signs as valuing commitment highly: Earth signs through consistent action, Water signs through deep emotional loyalty.

Communication Compatibility

Astrology-inspired scores for pairs traditionally described as communicating easily.

Zodiac PairScoreCommunication Style
Gemini & Libra99%Natural rapport, endless conversation

Aries & Gemini95%Energetic, quick-witted, fun
Sagittarius & Aquarius95%Open-minded, philosophical
Cancer & Pisces94%Empathetic, intuitive, gentle
Virgo & Capricorn93%Clear, structured, respectful

Good communication matters in every relationship. In astrology, Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are associated with verbal expression and exchanging ideas, and Air-Air or Air-Fire pairings are traditionally described as talkative and lively. Water signs are linked with emotional, intuitive communication and are traditionally paired with other Water or Earth signs that appreciate a subtler style.

Passion Compatibility

Astrology-inspired passion scores: signs traditionally associated with romantic intensity.

Taurus92%Sensual, patient, devoted
Aquarius92%Innovative, unconventional, exciting
Virgo90%Devoted, meticulous, gentle
Capricorn89%Controlled, ambitious, passionate

In astrology, passion is usually discussed through fire and water dynamics. Fire signs (Leo, Aries, Sagittarius) are linked with heat, spontaneity and physical enthusiasm, while Water signs (Scorpio, Pisces, Cancer) are linked with emotional depth, sensuality and romantic intensity. The highest passion scores in this model come from Fire-Fire pairings and Fire-Air combinations, while Water-Water connections are described as deeply romantic and emotionally charged.

Best Zodiac Matches

Ten pairings that score highest in the astrology-inspired model, with the traditional reason usually given for them.

Zodiac PairScoreElementsWhy It Works
Leo & Libra94%Fire & AirRomance, Harmony
Aries & Leo96%Fire & FirePassion, Adventure
Taurus & Virgo93%Earth & EarthLoyalty, Stability
Gemini & Libra97%Air & AirCommunication, Intellect
Cancer & Scorpio96%Water & WaterEmotional Depth

Leo & Sagittarius97%Fire & FireExcitement, Passion
Scorpio & Pisces97%Water & WaterDeep emotional bond
Virgo & Capricorn94%Earth & EarthDiscipline, Trust
Gemini & Aquarius94%Air & AirInnovation, Ideas

The pairings at the top of this table share either the same element or complementary elements. Same-element pairs are described as sharing natural understanding and values, while complementary pairs (Fire with Air, Earth with Water) are described as balanced and growth-oriented. The highest-scoring pairs in this model combine passion with harmony, loyalty with adventure, and depth with joy.

Challenging Zodiac Matches

Every relationship can work with effort, but astrology traditionally flags some pairings as needing more understanding. Opposite-element pairings are described as the most friction-prone: Fire with Water (Aries & Cancer, Leo & Scorpio) and Earth with Air (Taurus & Aquarius, Virgo & Gemini). Each side of those pairs represents a different approach to life, emotion and communication.

Fire signs are direct and action-oriented, while Water signs are emotional and reflective. Earth signs are linked with stability and routine, while Air signs are linked with variety and intellectual stimulation. Those differences are also why these pairings are traditionally framed as growth opportunities: opposites are said to stretch each other, which many couples find valuable in practice.

If you are in a challenging zodiac match, focus on communication, mutual respect, and understanding your differences as complementary strengths rather than obstacles. Our Relationship Advisor can help you navigate your unique dynamics.

How to Use Zodiac Compatibility in a Relationship

Whether your compatibility score comes out high or low, every relationship can be strengthened with conscious effort. These practical tips use the language of the signs as a starting point for a stronger partnership.

1. Communicate Openly and Honestly

Communication is the foundation of every great relationship. Air signs naturally excel at this, but all signs can improve their communication skills. Practice active listening, express your needs clearly, and create a safe space for your partner to share their feelings. Avoid assumptions and ask questions when you are unsure. Good communication prevents misunderstandings and deepens emotional intimacy.

2. Respect Each Other’s Needs

In astrology, each sign is described as having distinct emotional needs: Fire signs with admiration and excitement, Earth signs with stability and security, Air signs with intellectual stimulation and freedom, Water signs with emotional connection and reassurance. It is a handy reminder that people want different things, and noticing what your partner actually needs is what helps a relationship feel safe.

3. Create Quality Time Together

Regular quality time strengthens your bond and keeps the romance alive. Plan date nights that suit both partners’ preferences. For passionate couples, try adventurous activities. For homebody couples, create cozy rituals. The key is consistency and intention, not grand gestures. Explore our Date Ideas for inspiration.

4. Support Personal Growth

The strongest relationships are those where both partners grow together while supporting each other’s individual journeys. Encourage your partner’s ambitions, celebrate their achievements, and provide comfort during challenges. A relationship works best as a safe foundation from which both people can explore their full potential.

5. Practice Gratitude and Appreciation

Regularly expressing gratitude for your partner strengthens your bond and creates positive momentum in your relationship. Notice the little things they do, acknowledge their efforts, and tell them what you appreciate about them. Gratitude transforms ordinary relationships into extraordinary ones.

Common Astrology Myths

Myth: Sun Signs Are All That Matter

Sun signs are only one part of astrology. A fuller astrological reading would also weigh Moon signs, Rising signs and planetary placements — something this calculator deliberately does not attempt. Two people whose signs are traditionally described as mismatched can still have plenty in common elsewhere, and astrology is not the deciding factor either way.

Myth: Incompatible Signs Can Never Work

Zodiac compatibility is not destiny. Many couples with challenging astrological matches build incredibly strong, loving relationships through communication, compromise, and mutual respect. Astrology is a tool for understanding, not a predictor of failure. Use it to gain insights, not to limit your possibilities.

Myth: Mercury Retrograde Destroys Relationships

Mercury retrograde periods can cause communication misunderstandings, but they are not relationship-ending events. These periods actually offer opportunities to review, reflect, and realign your relationship. Many couples find that working through retrograde challenges ultimately strengthens their bond.

Myth: Your Zodiac Sign Determines Your Personality

Astrology offers a framework for understanding personality tendencies, but it does not rigidly determine who you are. Your upbringing, experiences, choices, and personal growth all shape your character. Use astrology as a tool for self-discovery and relationship understanding, not as a limiting label.

How Zodiac Signs Are Said to Affect Relationships

In astrology, zodiac signs are described as influencing a relationship in ways that range from initial attraction to long-term compatibility, and each sign is traditionally credited with its own strengths, challenges and patterns. Thinking about those themes can still be a useful way for couples to talk about awareness, empathy and connection.

In astrology, Fire signs (Aries, Leo, Sagittarius) are described as approaching relationships with passion, enthusiasm and directness — natural initiators who bring excitement and adventure. Aries is described as bold and competitive, Leo as warm and dramatic, and Sagittarius as optimistic and freedom-loving. Fire signs are said to need partners who can match their energy and appreciate their spontaneous nature.

Earth signs (Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn) are traditionally described as grounded, practical and loyal partners who value stability and commitment. Taurus is described as sensual and patient, Virgo as analytical and devoted, and Capricorn as ambitious and responsible. In this tradition Earth signs build relationships on solid foundations and express love through acts of service, reliability and tangible support, and they are said to need partners who appreciate their steadiness.

Air signs (Gemini, Libra, Aquarius) are credited with bringing conversation, social ease and intellectual stimulation to a relationship. Gemini is described as curious and adaptable, Libra as harmonious and romantic, and Aquarius as innovative and independent. Air signs are said to thrive on mental connection and to need partners who respect their social life and their independence.

Water signs (Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces) are linked with emotional intuition, empathy and sensitivity. Cancer is described as nurturing and protective, Scorpio as intense and transformative, and Pisces as dreamy and compassionate. Water signs are said to create emotionally rich partnerships and to need partners who can handle their depth and provide emotional security.

In astrology, elemental pairings are described as following predictable patterns. Same-element pairs are said to share natural understanding and harmony. Complementary pairs (Fire with Air, Earth with Water) are described as balanced and growth-oriented. Opposing-element pairs are described as facing more friction, but also as offering opportunities for growth. Thinking about those dynamics can help couples discuss their differences with more compassion.

About This Zodiac Compatibility Calculator

Why we built it

LoveVerse created this zodiac compatibility calculator as an astrology-inspired relationship tool — a light, well-presented way to start a conversation about how two people relate. It is free, needs no signup, and is meant for enjoyment rather than judgment.

How results are generated

Each birth date is converted into a sun sign, and the pairing is scored by the site’s zodiac compatibility model, which uses traditional sign pairings plus element relationships (Fire, Earth, Air, Water) to produce five themes: romance, trust, communication, passion and long-term compatibility. Adding a birth time applies a simplified birth-hour estimate for moon-sign and rising-sign themes. Birth place is optional and is not used in the calculation. The same pair always returns the same result, so comparisons stay consistent.

What the scores mean — and do not mean

Scores are entertainment-oriented interpretations of traditional zodiac patterns, not scientific measurements. A 95% result does not mean a couple has a 95% chance of success, and a lower score does not mean a relationship is doomed. Use the number as a conversation starter.

Astrology and science

Astrology has not been shown to predict personality traits or relationship outcomes. We present zodiac compatibility as a cultural tradition and a bit of fun — we never claim it can forecast your future or your partner’s behavior.

What actually shapes relationship health

Healthy relationships depend on everyday things rather than star signs: communication, trust, shared values, respect and consistent mutual effort. If your reading gives you something to talk about, it has done its job — read more in our relationship advice library.

Not professional advice

This calculator is not therapy, counseling or medical advice. If you are facing serious relationship difficulties or your well-being is affected, please speak with a qualified counselor, therapist or doctor. Questions about how this tool works are always welcome on our contact page.
